Max Media of Montana

Since its inception in March 2001, Max Media of Montana has pursued an aggressive growth strategy towards the goal of becoming Montana’s premiere television broadcast group. On March 1, 2001, Max Media of Montana purchased five television stations from Continental Television. This group included KTMF & KTMF-LP, the ABC affiliates in Missoula and Kalispell, KWYB & KWYB-LP, the ABC affiliates in Butte and Bozeman, and KTGF, the NBC Affiliate in Great Falls.

In August 2003, Max Media entered a Shared Services Agreement with Missoula’s Fox affiliate, KMMF, and is managing the sales, traffic, master control and other functions for the station.

June 2004 brought the acquisition of news powerhouse KULR – 8, the NBC affiliate in Billings and one of Montana's first television stations when it signed on in March of 1958.
In November 2004, Max Media sold KTGF in Great Falls to Destiny Communications and closed on its purchase of KFBB and KHBB, the ABC affiliates in Great Falls and Helena respectively.

In February 2005, a new Shared Services Agreement enabled Max Media to sign on the Fox affiliates KLMN in Great Falls and KBTZ in Butte & Bozeman just in time for the Super Bowl.

Also in February 2005, Max Media formed the Montana News Network – a vehicle to share its news and information resources between its stations spanning the state.   The award winning newscasts of KULR and the other Max stations benefit from, as well as contribute to, the network effort.

The Fall of 2005 saw the formation of another Max Media entity, the Montana Sports Network, which produces and airs MSU Bobcat Football on Max's seven owned stations across the state.  Our increasing commitment to locally produced programming, news, and sports plus quality network programming and sports from ABC, Fox, and NBC are making Max Media television stations the preferred choice of Montana viewers throughout the state!
